Judges' issue: Aitzaz challenges Qayyum and Pirzada for debate

13 Mar, 2008

President Supreme Court Bar Association, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan on Wednesday challenged Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum and senior lawyer Sharifuddin Pirzada for a live television debate on the deposed judges issue.
"I invite Malik Qayyum and Sharifuddin Pirzada for a live debate on this issue on any TV channel of their choice," Aitzaz told media after meeting PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari at the latter's residence.
He said that the issue requires sincerity of the executive and he hoped that both Zardari and Nawaz Sharrif would lead the executive towards a good decision.
"There is no need of a parliamentary resolution for restoration of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges who did not take oath under provisional constitutional order (PCO)," said Aitzaz, who is leading a countrywide 'Black Flag Week' campaign of the lawyers' community. "The resolution would only mean that parliament backs the administration and executive for the decision to restore the judges," he argued.
