USC to enhance rice supply at its stores

18 Mar, 2008

In order to meet the growing demand of rice at its outlets the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has decided to enhance the supply of the commodity. "As the demand of rice at our stores is increasing, we have decided to increase its supply from 15,000 tons to 20,000 tons per month," USC sources told APP here on Monday.
They said that demand for the procurement of rice had been placed and soon all stores of the Corporation would have sufficient stock of the commodity. They said that there was no shortage of rice at utility stores and the recent climb in its demand was mainly due to the low rates of the commodity as compared to open market.
They said that as the price of the commodity was higher in the open market, people rush towards the USC outlets to buy it at cheaper rates. "The demand for broken rice, in particular, has registered a significant increase recently," sources claimed. It has also been noticed that the demand for broken rice is higher in rural areas, particularly in AJK and Northern Areas. They said that the rice at USC stores was of finer quality as it was being bought from the exporters.
