A two-day seminar on "Poverty alleviation through employment generation" would be held here on Monday. The event is being organised by Pakistan Manpower Institute (PMI) to acquaint the participants with the concept of poverty, its growth in the country, issues and measures required to alleviate poverty and correlation between human resource development and poverty to devise policies to improve productivity and skill.
In addition to this, an understanding towards designing poverty alleviation projects would also be provided. About 25 officers from federal and provincial government organisation and academic institutions would attend the seminar.
PMI Director General Mazhar Hussain would be chief guest on the occasion, while senior officials from the ministry and PMI would also attend the event.
PMI was established in 1975 as an attached department of the ministry of Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis. As per its charter of function, the institute undertakes research and training in the area of human resource development and management with focus on labour related issues for the officers and executives from public and private sector organisations.
