Wasa officials suspended on negligence charges

Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mian Shafqat Ali has suspended two sub-Divisional Officers of Wasa.
The officers Muhammad Laeeq and Saleem Ashraf were suspended on the charges of showing negligence in the performance of duties and sleeping over the emergent complaints of sewerage overflowing in the area of Katcha Ferozpur Road and non-restoration of newly laid sewerage in Abu Bakar Block, Garden Town, Lahore.
The Minister issued these orders while visiting different areas of the city. MD Wasa, Pervez Iftikhar also accompanied the Minister. During the visit, the residents of Katcha Ferozpur Road complained the Minister about the negligence of Muhammad Laeeq and Saleem Ashraf SDOs of Katcha Ferozpur Road and Garden Town Lahore respectively.
The people complained that due to the negligence of SDO Katcha Ferozopur Road, sewerage was overflowing and there was every chance of breaking of any epidemic disease. Similarly, the residents of Garden Town lodged a complaint that SDO Wasa Garden Town had not yet restored the newly laid sewerage pipelines.
The complaints regarding water pipe leakage were not properly taken up by the SDO concerned. The Minister directed the MD Wasa for the immediate suspension and holding of a formal enquiry against both the officers. Accordingly, the authority has issued the suspension orders against these officers.
The Minister during his visit to the Mozang area warned the Director (O&M) Ganj Bakhsh Town, Muhammad Mansha to attend properly to the problems accruing during the lying of pipelines in the area. All complaints in this regard must be taken up seriously, he added. The Minister directed the MD Wasa that the task of covering of manholes and repair of pipelines in the city must be completed on an urgent ground.
