Partly Facetious: who is to blame for 'the miracle'?

24 Mar, 2008

"So the question whose fault the current economic crisis is, comes as it does in the wake of the economic miracle we were experiencing?"
"I beg to disagree. I never thought we were experiencing any miracle."
"You didn't think so because you are stupid. All the bright ones were telling you that we were experiencing a miracle, bright ones like the Chosen One and Musharraf and that's the way the cookie crumbles, my friend."
"Don't be facetious."
"Well, anyway what I found very interesting is that instead of fighting over which party would get the Finance Ministry there was absolutely no taker for that post."
"Yes I know but what is interesting is a recent story probably leaked by those who were part of the economic miracle putting the entire blame for the economic downturn on the US..."
"Oh, dear God!"
"Precisely so it's not the fault of our economic managers of eight years past but the US for not giving us money quickly enough as we were then forced to spend our own money on fighting the US war on terror."
"That's truly an incredibly convoluted logic and no one would be willing to accept that as an excuse."
"Would someone tell the economic managers?"
"The Chosen One is gone and I guess Salman Shah might do a Musharraf..."
"Stay and try to fight till fired?"
"He hasn't given any indication that he is resigning?"
"Not yet. But he is bound to be fired as soon as the new man comes into the Finance Ministry."
"Right but wouldn't the honourable thing to do would be to resign and..."
"Honour and the previous set-up don't go hand in hand. Now, if it was a matter of staying power..."
"By hook or by crook..."
"Defined as commando action..."
"Then all is fair."
"Indeed."
