Increase in transport fares: KTI to hold meeting

29 Mar, 2008

Transporters will hold an emergency meeting on March 29, for taking decision as to whether they give a call to observe transport strike on April 1 and 2. President Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) Irshad Bukhari said here on Friday that the meeting will also decide whether to accept an increase of Rs 2 in the fares of public transport announced by the Sindh Government.
He said KTI held two meetings with the Sindh Transport Minister Arif Ali Khan Abbasi for using his offices in convincing the Federal Government to reduce diesel prices. However, the Minister said the Federal Government has asked him to raise the transport fares. Bukhari said increase of Rs 2 was insufficient and transporters recommended a raise of Rs 3 in transport fares.
