Former PTV managing director Aslam Azhar has praised Shan-ul-Haq Haqee as a great language scholar as well as a prominent literary critic of literature. Aslam Azhar also said in his presidential remarks at the Shanul Haq Haqee seminar arranged at the Pakistan Academy of Letters on Saturday that he learnt a lot from Shan because he discussed many literary questions and he found him to be perfectionist in his literary estimates.
Another literary luminary Mushtaq Ahmed Yousafi said that Shan was a researcher in the old order, a true one and was very absorbed in his work and never gave importance to anything outside his research. For example, he could tell how many times the word "mirror" was used in Ghalib but could not remember the number of his house. He said that we are gathered here not to offer condolence but to remember and appreciate Shan's service to Urdu.
Iftikhar Arif said that Shan would be remembered in our literary history as a prominent linguist, critic, poet and translator. It is incredible to imagine the bulk of his "English-Urdu Dictionary", "Farhang-e-Talaffuz", "Tar-e-Pairahan" and "Nuqta-e-Raz." These are works, which can be considered as authentic sources of inspiration in Urdu.
Shayan Haqi thanked Pakistan Academy of Letters and audience for arranging such a memorable memorial for Shan-ul-Haq, a refined scholar but a very humble person, and a loving father.
