It is an enigma why KESC's load-shedding occurs during night. Granted that during the day demand for power is far in excess of generating capacity and resort to load-shedding is unavoidable. During night demand falls to as low as 40 - 45 percent of the day peak demand.
Because markets, commercial offices, trade centres are closed for the night. Main consumers of power during night are living quarters of people, newspaper publishing places, TV channel establishments etc. Consumption of power by these is not known to be much, As such, KESC's night load-shedding has no justi-fication
KESC does net seem to be aware of the torture to which its night shedding is subjecting people, resulting in deprivation of restful sleep. It is time some spirited lawyer opts to remind KESC that what it is doing is a violation of the Un's charter of Human Rights. Articles 5 and 24 are relevant.
