The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) has welcomed fixation of wheat support price of Rs 625 per 40 kg and termed the decision of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in the right direction for the betterment of agriculture sector.
The meeting of SCA, held here on Sunday evening, was presided over by its Senior Vice-President. It reviewed the decision of fixation of wheat support price and congratulated the Prime Minister for providing relief to wheat growers.
The meeting also appealed to the Prime Minister to bring about reduction in the prices of diesel, seed, fertilisers and pesticides so that the agriculture sector, which is the backbone of economy of the country, could be improved appropriately.
The meeting expressed grave concern over the acute shortage of irrigation water in Sindh and called for opening of all closed canals of Sukkur Barrage so that the sowing process for Kharif crops could be carried out in right time.
The meeting also called upon the government to conduct an enquiry into the delay in the provision of agriculture equipment and machinery to the growers. The meeting also called for the provision of certified seed of cotton, and payment of the outstanding dues of sugarcane growers.
