Representation in Federal Cabinet: Zardari, Nawaz discuss MQM role in Sindh

03 Apr, 2008

Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday held a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House to discuss Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) role in Sindh as it has become obligatory for the PPP to give representation to the MQM in the Federal cabinet, owing to its heavy mandate, party sources disclosed.
According to the party sources Asif Zardari discussed party's stance regarding the allocation of the ministries to the MQM in the Federal cabinet. "The MQM is a majority party in Sindh as it holds heavy mandate and the party stance at the moment is that the PPP co-chairman wants to induct MQM in the Federal cabinet as a goodwill gesture", party sources said.
Sources said that PPP had formed government with the MQM in Sindh, hence two ministerial slots would be offered to the MQM in the Federal cabinet. "The PPP could not form the provincial government in Sindh without the involvement of the MQM so it has become obligatory for the PPP to involve the MQM in the Federal government", they said.
"The PPP has adopted reconciliation policy in formation of Federal government so it has been decided to give representation to the MQM in the Federal government", party sources said.
