Fine atta price increased

06 Apr, 2008

Flour Mills have increased the price of fine flour (Maida) by Rs 200 per bag while town Nazmeen, instead of supervising the sale of atta on their own, have assigned the task to flour dealers, due to political reasons.
In the provincial capital, the flour millers have increased the price of a 85-kg bag of superior quality fine atta from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,000 while rate of a comparatively low quality of the product has jumped from Rs 1,700 to Rs 1,900 per bag. Surpassingly, the district government administration has taken no action against this move of the flour mills.
Flour Mills Association Lahore Vice Chairman Mian Riaz said on Saturday that the mills as per instruction of district government were supplying atta to towns, however, the problem of shortage still persisted in certain areas. "We are acting upon the advice of the district government and in this way want to give a message to the new democratic government that flour millers are not involved in black-marketing," he said.
