Directorate of Workers Education of Federal Labour and Manpower Ministry has initiated a series of workshops for creating awareness against Aids among the industrial workers and truck drivers. Workers Education's Assistant Director Muhammad Akbar Rai stated this while addressing at one-day workshop on Aids held at Sambrial Dry port on Friday evening.
He revealed that Directorate had successfully disseminated the necessary information among 30,000 industrial workers and truck drivers about the fatal disease of Aid in various parts of the country. The industrial workers and truck drivers were the victims of Aids, sexual misdeeds because of lack of awareness about this fatal disease, he said.
He further stated that the government, keeping in view the rapidly growing cases of Aids among the industrial workers, had prepared several awareness programmes aimed at preventing the labourers from Aids. The government had also introduced computer-training programmes for the industrial workers and their children at Workers Welfare Regional Centre Sialkot, he disclosed.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Talat Abbas Baig disclosed that mostly truck drivers and industrial workers were the victims of Aids, adding that according to unofficial statistics there were 80,000 patients of this disease in the country. Sialkot Dry Port Secretary Shahzad Munir and Assistant Director Muhammad Ashraf also addressed the workshop.
