Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) would prepare six more Science Caravan units - specially designed vehicles -that transport display items to rural areas for setting up science exhibitions mainly in schools.
These innovative Science Caravan units would be prepared under PSF's programme initiated to promote awareness about science in rural areas, which will cover Fata and AJK as well. Talking to APP an official at PSF revealed this here on Saturday.
Currently, he said, nine units of Science Caravan are operating in the country, which exhibit brightly illustrated display panels on such diverse themes as lasers, medical break-through, space exploration, renewable energy resources, mineral wealth of Pakistan, medicinal and poisonous plants etc.
The official said posters, mechanical models and three-dimensional displays are additional attractions, as are also computers and microscopes. Furthermore talking about the other programmes, he said Foundation has established a library of highly interesting and informative films on sciences on a variety of themes such as scientific discoveries, wildlife, environment, energy, electricity, and oceans.
These films are screened in schools with commentaries in Urdu or English. The Foundation also arranges 'Planetarium Shows' in schools with the help of portable planetarium. These shows provide interesting glimpses of the sun, moon planets, constellations and galaxies through realistic projections. Slides and a highly informative commentary are included.
A programme of Science Slide Shows has also been developed for students and the general public. Slides have been prepared on themes such as Scientific and Technological Progress in Pakistan, Extinct Animals, Heavenly Bodies, and Sea Animals of Pakistan with commentary in Urdu. PSF has also initiated a programme under which national monthly Science Digest and Magazines are distributed to different high schools of rural areas of the country.
