Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman has expressed deep concern and condemned in strongest terms the reported incident of 'stoning to death' of a couple in Mohmand Agency recently.
Commenting on the news reports that a man and a woman were abducted from Nowshera (NWFP) and executed them by stoning to death in Mohmand Agency (Fata) at the order of so called Qazi belonging to a section of militants and their bodies were thrown in a jungle, the minister said " I condemn in strongest terms the way the couple was put to death in barbaric, gruesome and uncivilised manner, as reported in the press".
Sherry said, any person who violates and takes the law into his hands shall be punished in accordance with law and the government would not overlook any such unlawful act, says a press release received here on Sunday.
"The elected government gained a clear mandate from the people of Pakistan to create a civilised and humane society where the rights of the vulnerable sections of the society are protected", she added. She said that the government will take necessary action against the culprits so that they are punished according to the law at earliest.
"The law ministry has also taken note of this uncivilised incident and will take the required action. There is no room in Pakistan for people to take the law into their own hands. Taliban laws cannot be arbitrarily imposed and all citizens are entitled to justice under the law", she added.
