The Punjab Food Department has suspended the wheat quota for more than 70 flourmills in the province after being found guilty of irregularities. A department spokesman said on Tuesday that this action came after the flour men were found guilty of smuggling, overcharging, less grinding and supplying in the market without compiling a proper record.
He also said the mills were from Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khanewal, Jhang, Faisalabad, TT Singh, Bahawalpur, RY Khan, Multan, Vehari and Rajanpur. He said some flourmills were found using delaying tactics in grinding wheat available at Rs 465 per 40-kg from the Food Department to get undue profit by selling wheat at new rates of Rs 625 per 40-kg.
"The provincial government is supplying more than 18,000 tonnes of wheat daily to 665 flourmills of the province at subsidised rates in order to ensure constant supply of flour to people at reasonable rates," he added.
