LHCBA condemns manhandling of Sher Afgan

The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), condemning the incident of manhandling of Dr Sher Afgan Niazi here on Tuesday, has called for an inquiry and disciplinary action against those responsible. The bar meeting held on Wednesday with its President Anwar Kamal in the chair, also demanded to bring the facts of the incident to surface.
The meeting also called for independent inquiry into attack on Mianwali bar. The bar also asked President of Supreme Court Bar Association Aitzaz Ahsan to take back his decision and lead the lawyers struggle for the reinstatement of the deposed judges and revival of the judiciary.
The bar meeting was addressed by Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, Ahmed Awais, Abdur Rashid Qureshi, Shahid Jamil Qureshi, Rashid Lodhi and Liaquat Ali Qureshi. The speakers said the incident of Dr Sher Afghan Niazi was shameful and could damage their struggle for reinstatement of the deposed judges.
The meeting was of the view when lawyers were going to achieve their goal, Aitzaz Ahsan should not leave the lawyers alone in their struggle. They said the bar members would not allow anybody to sabotage their struggle, and asked the bar members to keep a vigilant eye on the conspirators in the ranks.
They said if any lawyer were found involved in the incident - manhandling of Dr Sher Afgan - would be punished severely to save the lawyers' movement from conspiracies. They said the lawyers were law-abiding and believed in rule of law, protection of human rights and hence they could not act illegally.
They said the lawyers would continue their struggle for reinstatement of the deposed judges, and called upon the political parties to reinstate the deposed judges in accordance with their commitment with the people of Pakistan. They said the lawyers would continue to hold rallies for the reinstatement of the deposed judges and revival of the judiciary.
