Federal government has set wheat procurement target of three million tons for Punjab, however, more wheat can be purchased according to needs, said spokesman of Food Department Punjab.
He said that the Food Department is also ready to help other provinces for purchasing wheat according to their requirements and the arrangements for the upcoming wheat procurement campaign are being finalised.
Giving details, the spokesman said that 18,000 tons wheat is being supplied to the flourmills daily by the department, which is 26 percent more than the requirement of urban population. He further said that the sole aim of supplying wheat in abundant quantity is to ensure that atta is easily available to masses.
The spokesman further said that in case of suspension of wheat quota to any flourmill, the same is distributed among other flourmills of the area.
