Traditional senseless bureaucracy has again come in the way of a big project and the project to establish a Cotton Ginning Research and Training Institute has been delayed. This project was in the pipeline from the last five years. Ministry of textile industry has stopped its funds. PC-1 is still not sanctioned.
Only three meetings of its board of directors have been conducted so far which would prove to be useless. Federal government had allocated 28 million rupees for this project which was later increased to 40 million rupees in the year 2007-08. A government land was allocated in industrial state for this project but bureaucracy remained again successful in shifting this project on Khanewal Road.
Producing almost 80 percent of the total cotton produced in Pakistan, this region is still deprived from the latest research, information and the basic information about ginning.
This project was sanctioned as a result of the struggle from Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association but because of not having any further movement in this project, ginners are facing severe problems. Textile mill owners, ginners and farmers have appealed to the prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to take immediate steps for the establishment of this institute.
