The federal government has updated the Exit Control List (ECL) adding former foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri and former chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Tariq Kirmani and about one hundred other persons. More than two dozen people have been excluded from the list.
Interior Ministry has put names of about 100 political leaders of previous ruling alliance and bureaucrats including Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri and Tariq Kirmani on ECL to bar them from travelling abroad, said a reliable source in the ministry here on Wednesday.
He said that the names of more than two dozen people including former Balochistan chief minister and Baloch nationalist leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Talal Bugti, son of slain Baloch chieftain Sardar Akbar Bugti and Kher Bakhsh Mari, a hardcore Baloch nationalist leader, were excluded from the ECL.
He said that the names of politicians included in the ECL by previous government under its campaign of political victimisation and as a move to force people to change loyalties have been excluded from the list. He said that people who were put on ECL are expected to be passed through an accountability test by the present government.
