Lawyers organised a rally to observe "Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Karachi" here on Thursday. The rally, which was also joined by leaders and activists of Jamat-e-Islami, urged the government to restore the deposed judges as per the commitment itmade with the nation in Muree Declaration.
Prior to the rally, a convention of lawyers was also held in High Court Bar complex which was attended by more than 1000 lawyers of 27 Tehsil and district Bar associations of Southern Punjab.
The convention chaired by Mehmood Ashraf Khan President Lahore High Court Bar Association Multan demanded of the government to immediately remove DPO Sahiwal, who had sprinkled oil on a lawyers rally that injured scores of lawyers seriously. Lawyers kept shouting slogans such as "Go Musharraf go" "Reinstate Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry," etc during the convention.
Addressing the convention Rao Nadeem Iqbal General Secretary Sahiwal Bar, Chaudhry Muhammad Jamil President Bahawalpur Bar, Ghazanfar Zaman of Shujabad Bar, Malik Allah Wasaya of Alipur Bar, Zubaid-ussalam Khan Sherwani of Muzaffargarh Bar, Tariq Nadeem of Duniyapur BAr, Chaudhry Zahid Razzaq of Mian Chunnu Bar and others strongly criticised the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). They held MQM responsible for the April 9 Karachi carnage in which lawyers and litigants were burnt alive and their chambers were destroyed.
