SDC grants $3.7 million for GBG systems project

Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation (SDC) has granted USD 3.7 million for Gender Based Governance Systems Project (GBG) in Pakistan. The agreement between SDC and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was signed here on Thursday.
Pius Rohner, Country Director, SDC and Alvaro Rodriguez, Resident Representative UNDP, Amir Tariq Zaman, Joint Secretary, Economic Affairs Division, Nicole Ruder, Deputy Country Director SDC, Representative of Planning and Development Division, and Samar Ihsan, Deputy Secretary, MoWD and Project Director, GBG were present on the occasion.
The GBG project is designed as a long-term initiative for capacity building of male and female government officers, local government representatives, parliamentarians and provincial assembly representatives on gender sensitive tools and methodologies for planning, monitoring and evaluation of development initiatives.
An accountability mechanism will also be put in place under this project for Federal Government officials to ensure that gender needs are met in implementation. GBG project is a component of UNDP's larger Gender Support Programme, which addresses the political, institutional and economic issues prevalent in Pakistan. The GSP is financed by SDC, UK's DFID, Norway and Canada.-PR
