US MIDDAY: corn dips

18 Apr, 2008

May corn was down 1 cent at $6.02-1/2 per bushel, new-crop December down 3/4 at $6.25. Choppy; setback in soyabeans and crude oil offsets early strength. Market supported by wet weather and more rain expected, renewing concerns about US planting delays.
Deferred July 2009 sets new record high at $6.47. USDA reported US corn export sales for last week 922,600 tonnes (868,900 for 2007/08), above trade estimates. USDA said exporters sold 281,088 tonnes corn to Japan, Mexico. Cash basis bids for corn steady/weak in US Midwest interior, weak at rivers.
