District Officer Enterprises (DOE) said on Friday that 47 shopkeepers were fined with Rs 24,600 for overcharging on wheat flour. DOE Muhammad Tahir Tugga told newsmen that government fixed the new retail price of Atta at Rs 375 per 20kilogram bag but those shopkeepers did not comply with these rates and indulged in profiteering.
The price magistrates or deputy district Officers Revenue (DDORs) who raided the shops and levied the fine included those of Kabirwala, Mian Channu, Jahanian and Khanewal. The DOE warned the traders that the government would not allow them to fleece the masses at all and that they should abide by the law, and honour the government-fixed prices of Atta and other consumer items.
