What more slanderous and vilifying report could be than that of Reuters release from New Delhi carried by Business Recorder (April 12) captioned out of court deal to unlock Nizam of Hyderabad's millions. The shameful part of the report is that Nizam had impregnated 86 of his mistresses, siring more than 100 illegitimate children and a sea of rival claimants. This is a fabricated story to malign and run down the great Nizam.
Mr John Zubrzycki has authored a book titled "The last Nizam: The rise and fall of India's greatest princely state". The author writes that the seventh Nizam was reported to be the richest man in the world. He led a simple life but donated generously to every cause and charity in India as well as abroad, irrespective of the receiver's caste and religion.
The author further writes that the Last Nizam is not simply the story of an individual, it is also a story of greed, treachery and intrigue repeatedly practiced by the foreign countries to gain control of the wealth of the other countries. Usmania University is the citadel of learning. The news report is biased and expose vituperated mindsets against the Last Nizam the great soul Osman Ali Khan.
Professor Stanley Wolpert in his 'Jinnah of Pakistan' writes, the Nizam of Hyderabad preferred to join Pakistan, if he was not allowed to remain- independent, but surrounded as he was by Indian territory and 85 percent of his state's population Hindu, he was forced the following September by 'Operation Polo' to integrate his domain within the Indian union. (Page 336-Chapter 22-1998 print).
An unique example of a welfare state of Hyderabad with an absolute population of Hindu majority would be difficult to be found in the world. Yet his Nizam's pious profile attempted to be shattered through the press release manifest the revengful attitude against the Nizam for his love for Pakistan.
We have in Karachi a number of veteran scholars, writers hailing from Hyderabad Deccan. Bahadur Yar Jung residential society is there. Some good man should come up to repudiate such defamatory story against the Nizam of Hyderabad Deccan.
