Mixed trend prevailed on the currency market on Tuesday as the rupee played on both the sides, money experts said. In the interbank market, the rupee gained six paisa against dollar for buying at 63.99 and it also rose by eight paisa for selling at 64.02 in process of trading, they said.
The rupee gained strength on easy supply of dollars but it is likely that the rupee to be unable to retain its firmness due to strong demand for dollars to meet the payments, especially for oil, they observed. In the Asian trading dollar steadied against euro during the second session. The yen firmed broadly as a slide in Asian stocks prompted investors to trim risky yen carry trades, in which players use the low-yielding Japanese currency to finance purchases of assets offering higher returns elsewhere.
