Lecture on 'Iqbal and concept of democracy' held

The Majlis-e-Sufi Tubassam, the Government College University (GCU), Lahore, on Tuesday organised a lecture titled 'Iqbal and concept of democracy.' Head of the Iqbaliyat Department, Oriental College of Punjab University, Professor Dr Syed Muhammad Akram Shah, was the guest speaker on the occasion.
While expressing his views he said that Allama Muhammad Iqbal was the great admirer of democracy, where every individual has the right to express his/ her views, and he was against the forces of dictatorship. Dr Akram Shah added, however, influence of West and development of feudal culture has not let to flourish the democratic system in our county with its true spirit. He stressed on Muslims across the world to stand united and use their resources for the welfare and upgradation of Umma.
Chairman Persian Department, GCU, Muhammad Iqbal Saqib thanked Dr Syed Muhammad Akram for his insightful and thought provoking lecture. Later, former registrar GCU and distinguished Professor Dr Zaheer Ahmed Siddiqi presented bouquet of flower to the guest speaker. Meanwhile, the Ravians Quiz Society of the university conducted the 'Master Mind Quiz Contest 2008' which was participated by 14 students of the varsity and won by a student of M Sc economics, Rafaqat Ali.
