Director General Health Punjab Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry inaugurated the three-day National Immunisation Campaign against polio here on Tuesday at Children's Hospital by administering polio vaccine drops to the children. Dean of Children's Hospital, Dr Tahir Masood, representatives of WHO and Unicef Ahmed Darwesh and Dr Tahir Manzoor, were also present on the occasion.
Inaugurating the campaign, Aslam Chaudhry said that polio vaccination campaign will continue till 8th May during which 15 million children of up to 5 year of age will be given polio drops and Vitamin-A dose. For this purpose, 38,000 mobile teams have been constituted besides all the health centers will also extend this facility, he added.
The representatives of World Health Organisation (WHO) and Unicef said that it is necessary to administer polio drops to the children each time so as to protect them against this crippling disease. Besides monitoring teams of health department, officials of WHO and Unicef are also supervising the campaign.
