Over 11000-duty drawback claims are pending for payment with the collectorate since 1990, Collector of Custom Export, Khalid Mehmood informed business community on Tuesday.
Speaking at 2nd meeting of Export Sub Committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that these cases are pending due to incomplete documents, documents missing or having some objection which have not been removed so far. In some cases, the claimant did not turn up to collect refunds due. He said that the department has decided to re-examine all the cases and asked the claimants to complete the documents as soon as possible to settle these cases.
Replying a question about delay in payment of refund claims, he said that the department has started examining duty drawback claims thoroughly after detecting a fraud of Rs 5 to 6 crores recently. He said that the department has received few applications for grant of license under new schemes of exports-oriented units licensing scheme.
Khalid Mehmood said that under this scheme 100 percent export oriented units are allowed to import raw materials, machinery and other inputs duty free. Import and export record would be computerised and having online verification of record facility, he added.
Mehmood assured the members that licensing for export-oriented units under SROs 326(1)/2008 and 327(1)/2008 shall be dealt with on priority basis, so that Pakistan's exports can be increased. He also assured the audience that all complaints would be seriously attended to.
