Though, the number of diarrhoea patients has increased due to extreme weather conditions, no gastro outbreak was reported from any part of Punjab. A Punjab Health Department spokesman said on Wednesday that the health authorities were monitoring the situation while stocks of necessary medicines in hospitals and chemists were in abundance to cope with any epidemic.
A special cell, he said, was functional under the Director CDC Dr Zia-ur-Rehman that will collect data about gastro cases in the province. The spokesman also said the Health Department had ordered medical superintendents of hospitals to ensure the availability of sufficient quantity of ORS, drips and necessary medicines in all hospitals and medical centres.
Meanwhile, patients brought from different areas to Vehari and Sheikhupura hospitals, were recovering fast and no gastro outbreak was reported in Punjab', he added. The spokeman of the Health Department also asked public to contact their nearest hospital or medical centre in case of diarrhoea and vomiting.
