09 May, 2008

Former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that the sitting judges couldn't be removed without constitutional package. Talking to a private TV channel he said that the judges' issue is a complicated one and couldn't be settled by passing a resolution in the National Assembly.
He said the government should also focus its attention towards the inflation, adding that the poor masses should be given some relief, especially in items of commodities. About the unification of Muslim League, he said Muslim League is always one. One bloc, he said, is in power and the other is in opposition. One part of PML always in power corridor, he added.
To a query Sheikh Rashid said, actually the Muslim League is always hijacked by the personalities, not by the people. It has always very good candidates who need little push and in factions everybody come in one umbrella. The PML, he said, has had its own vote bank.
He said, "Still I am in PML", adding when he was a student worker he was the President of Muslim Students Federation. He said as a student worker he had addressed in Rajshani, Khulna, Chittagong, Dhaka. "So I have a long journey for the active politics and so many reasons", he claimed.
To another question Sheikh Rashid said that he had remained in power for the last several years but had also served the area and its people. He said during his ministership he had spread net of colleges in the city. All the poor students, who could not afford to get education in Lahore, are now getting the education at their own city at doorstep. Similarly, he said that he had also established a women university.
