The lawyers of Multan will observe a black day in memory of over 50 martyrs of the May 12, 2007 violence, when sacked Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry went to Karachi to attend the silver jubilee celebrations of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) and clashes broke out.
HCBA President Mehmood Ashraf Khan said that beside the total boycott of court proceedings on May 12, lawyers would also hoist black flags and wear black armbands to protest the delay in the restoration of the pre- November 3 judiciary.
"I assure the lawyers that the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) will not work against the fraternity's common goal," said Khan, who had returned the night before after attending a PBC meeting in Islamabad.
He also announced this decision and appealed to all members to stay away from the courts on May 12, and hoist black flags at their offices to protest the government machinery's failure to arrest the killers of the martyrs. The District Bar Association Multan announced a similar program as well as a rally would also be taken out on the same day.
