Rulers must avoid playing with national issues: Achakzai

11 May, 2008

Convenor All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), Chairman Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Saturday claimed that people would reject those political parties which are hindering restoration of judges.
Addressing a press conference here at the Quetta Press Club, Achakzai said that his party would observe May 12 as black day against the killing of 45 innocent people in Karachi last year. He criticised the government for making undue delays in exposing main culprits who staged the "May 12 carnage" and called for a judicial probe into the incident.
Achakzai recalled that in London APC all the political parties except MQM and PML-Q had agreed on restoration of 1973 constitution formation of free and independent Election Commission. "But it is regrettable that some political parties failed to keep promises," and took steps which indirectly benefited anti-democracy elements.
He said that the rulers who enjoy an unprecedented popular support should resolve the problems confronting the country once and for all. He promised that his party would never create problems for the country or the government rather, and added.
He said that APDM parties would meet in Islamabad on May 14 to draw further course of action if judges are not restored. Achakzai asked the government to take drastic measure to control unbridled price hike of the daily commodities. He added that it was impossible for a daily wager even to "provide two times meal to his family."
He called for strict action against the officials who were involved in hoarding, profiteering and smuggling of flour wheat and other daily commodities. To a question, Achakzai advised that PML-N Chief Nawaz should join hands with APDM for independence of judiciary and restoration of deposed judges.
