Lieutenant General Martin E. Dempsey, Acting Commander US CENTCOM who is on a scheduled visit to Pakistan, visited General Headquarters and called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Monday. The visiting dignitary remained with the COAS for some time and discussed matters of professional interest.
Lieutenant General Martin E Dempsey also met Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Tariq Majid at Joint Staff Headquarters, Chaklala. General Dempsey held a wide-ranging discussion with CJCSC, General Tariq Majid on matters of mutual interest and other avenues of military co-operation. They also exchanged views on current security environment of the region.
CJCSC highlighted that there is no change in our policy and our objectives are the same, however, people who renounce militancy will be brought into mainstream through political dialogue.
Discussing further on security situation, the CJCSC expressed the need of US assistance for enhancing Pakistan Armed Forces capacity against miscreants. The acting US CENTCOM Commander, Lieutenant General Martin E Dempsey said that he is visiting the first country where American troops are not physically present, after assuming charge as Commander CENTCOM.
Pakistan is one of the major allies of US in war against terror and assured that the US Government will continue providing required assistance to Pakistan. Meanwhile, a twenty-member Nigerian Defence College delegation headed by Major General LP Ngubane also visited Joint Staff Headquarters.
Major General Ngubane called on Director General Joint Staff, Lieutenant General Syed Athar Ali and discussed matters of mutual interest. Later, the delegation was briefed on Higher Organisation of Pakistanis Armed Forces and Regional Security Perspective of Pakistan.
