750,000 maunds of wheat seized

Since the launching of crackdowns on wheat hoarding and smuggling, the anti-smuggling team, revenue officials, police and Passco have seized 0.3 million wheat bags (750,000 maunds wheat) hoarded in rice mills godowns and impounded more than two dozen wheat laden trucks.
Anti-Smuggling Team In-charge Muhammad Zubair Khan said here Tuesday. He said that eight check-posts have also been established to stop wheat smuggling out of the district. According to grain market sources, most of the rice millers and middlemen have stocked wheat in their godowns for fleecing the consumers during winter when there would be acute shortage of wheat. Meanwhile, Passco has procured more than 0.6 million maunds of wheat from different procurement centres and the campaign is in full swing.
