Jadoon not satisfied with transport department resources

14 May, 2008

Sindh Transport Minister Akhtar Hussain Jadoon has said that transport department has almost non-existent resources and is faced with numerous problems.
He said that most buses, trucks, dumpers, and oil tankers plying in Karachi are registered in Balochistan and fake fitness certificates are issued from the private transport terminals at Lea Market in the name of the Balochistan government.
Chairing a departmental meeting here on Tuesday, the minister said that federal government had released Rs 2.5 billion under the Karachi Mass Transit Program (KMTP), but surprisingly this amount will be spent by the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and later it would be returned to federal government by the provincial government.
He said that no funds were given to transport department for any transport scheme. He pointed out that Green Bus Scheme of the previous government has badly flopped and bus depots worth billions of rupees were under occupation of police, Rangers and Qabza mafia.
