Samsung Electronics, the world's largest computer chip maker, on May 14 announced a new management line-up following the resignation of its scandal-tainted chairman Lee Kun-Hee. The electronics giant, flagship of South Korea's biggest conglomerate Samsung, appointed Lee Yoon-Woo as vice chairman and CEO. Lee previously headed the company's external relations team.
He replaces Yun Jong-Yong, who will now serve as a company adviser. "The latest measure reflects the company's determination to focus on developing future growth engines, and to find a new momentum to become a world leading company," it said in a statement.
Hwang Chang-Gyu, former head of semiconductor business, became new chief technology officer. Kwon Oh-Hyun, who headed the non-memory chip division, was named as head of semiconductor operations.
Lee Kun-Hee, the chairman of Samsung group and Samsung Electronics, resigned from all posts last month after special prosecutors charged him with tax evasion and breach of trust. Samsung Electronics has said it will not appoint a new chairman. The firm is the world's top maker of computer chips and LCDs and the second-largest mobile phone maker.
