20 percent of Badin population found Hepatitis C positive

20 percent of Badin population were found Hepatitis C positive during screening of blood samples, the EDO Health Badin, Dr Abdus Sattar Channa revealed this during a reception held in his honour on Sunday.
Addressing the ceremony hosted by the Badin Press Club he said that 4,500 blood samples of people of the area, screened at various diagnostic laboratories showed that 20 percent of the people were diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
Channa also said that a scientific store is being constructed at the cost of Rs 10 million to preserve medicine at the hospital. He informed the gathering that children's vaccination week that was launched on May 18 will continue till 24.
Further, the EDO said a plan has been devised to overcome doctors' shortage in the district. The Civil Surgeon of Badin Civil Hospital, Dr Muhammad Moosa Memon, claimed that Badin Headquarters Hospital is being deprived of its due budget share for the last eight years causing severe problems for the visiting patients.
Dr Memon further said a plan in collaboration with the district government was being chalked out to meet the demand of medicine, x-ray machines and doctors at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the department of Telecommunication Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (Muet) Jamshoro, in collaboration with Combit Telecom, Canada organised a four-day training workshop on May 15.
The training was aimed to teach the faculty and staff efficient utilisation of Rs 17 million funds for purchase of equipment for the laboratory of Fiber Optics Communication. The objective was to ultimately pass on the training to the students. The Combit Telecom, a Canadian based company, specialised in fiber optics projects was requested to conduct the training.
The Vice Chancellor (VC), Muet, Professor Dr AQK Rajput, and the CEO, Combit, M Furqan Javed gave away certificates to the participants of the event. The VC in his speech appreciated the efforts of the Chairman, Department of Telecom Engineering, Professor Dr Aftab Memon for organising such a valuable and market oriented training.
Further, he thanked the CEO Combit and Director Engineering for taking special interest while conducting the training. Deans, chairmen of various departments, and professors were also present in the ceremony.
