Children in Pakistan: 'Gastro among leading causes of mortality'

20 May, 2008

Doctors and medical specialists have said that gastro is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity among children in Pakistan. Contaminated water is not only the cause of this dreadful disease but it may also lead to hepatitis A & E and the typhoid fever.
"The provision of clean water and air as well as proper disposal of waste and sewerage can reduce many diseases from the third world countries," revealed a research report published recently.
Doctors say that increase in temperature might result in enhancement of gastro cases. They stressed that proper care should be taken to avoid possible attack of gastro. Parents should give home-made diet to their school going children, and use boiled drinking water, which is much safer than mineral water available in the market.
Parents are also advised to give at least two to three glasses of ORS to their children every day to replace the salt and water losses resulting from the current hot and dry weather.
