Seminar on clean energy for safer environment held

Environment Protection Department Punjab has held one-day seminar on "clean energy for safer environment and sustainable development" on Wednesday. The objective of the seminar was to promote the use of alternate and renewable energy sources and sensitisation and motivation of governmental and non-governmental organisations and the public for making investment in the said sector.
The seminar focused on increasing the use of renewable energy sources and lessening the burden from non-renewable energy sources of the country so that present and future generations could enjoy safe and healthy environment.
The areas covered in the seminar included energy situation in Pakistan, solar energy, wind energy, hydel energy, geothermal energy, designing and construction of energy efficient buildings, and environmental evaluation of conventional and non-conventional energy sources.
Other speakers include EPA Acting DG Dr Shafquta Shahjahan, Sabir Alt Bhati, former General Manager of Water and Agriculture Division, Nespak, Majeed-ul-Hassan, Director (Project), Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies, Dr Shakeel Qureshi, Associate Professor, National College of Arts, Sheeraz Anwar Khan, Director General (Tech), Alternate Energy Development Board, and Colonel Mumtaz Hussain, Editor of Environ Monitor.
The people from different walks of life including representatives of provincial government departments, educational institutions and non-government organisations participated in the seminar.
