BIEK activates directorate of educational research

25 May, 2008

The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has activated its Directorate of Educational Research with immediate effect. An announcement to this effect was made by the Chairman of the BIEK, Professor Anwar Ahmed Zai.
This has been done with a view to ascertain the validity and acceptability of the results and ensure transparency in the mode of measurement and grading of the candidates at various examinations. Professor Anwar asked the Directorate of Educational Research of the Board to start working on evaluating the last 05 years examination papers of each and every subject pertaining to pre-medical, pre-engineering, home economics, commerce, science general and humanities groups on scientific pattern.
At the meeting it was decided that through this scientific research exercise it will also be determined that why the pass percentage of the candidates during previous years is continuously declining, similarly the trend of switching over from Science group to Commerce group has also been made an assignment to be undertaken by the research directorate to evaluate.
It was further decided that the examination papers of previous years belonging to other 06 educational boards of the province should also be made part of research work on comparison values. A comparative statement shall also be prepared by the Research Cell with regard to the pass percentage of various Boards during previous years. This exercise, it was believed, would lead to scientifically helping in implementing the model papers prepared on the new pattern and are supposed to come into effect from year 2009.
These model papers are based on 50 percent objective items, 20 percent short answers and 30 percent descriptive questions for each and every subject. It is learnt that the copies of these model papers have already been communicated to the heads of the recognised institutions as well as the Chairmen of all educational boards of the country.
The BIEK also decided in the meeting to seek assistance and guidance from the senior Professors of the respective subjects in the research work assigned to the Directorate of Educational Research of the Board.
