Government wants supremacy of Parliament: Qureshi

26 May, 2008

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that mutual brotherhood and unity is needed in the country and PPP is adopting the policy of mutual consultation to solve the problems of the country to take it out from the crisis. He said this while talking to different delegations, newsmen and party members here on Sunday.
Shah Mehmood said that the problems would become even worse with confrontation, adding that we can overcome the problems by adopting the teachings of our saints. He said that we could form the government in Punjab if we wished, but we want to take all the political parties with us keeping in view the best interest of the country.
He further said that we want the supremacy of the parliament and the restoration of the Constitution of 73. If the parliament would be strong, then all our problems would be solved too, he added.
In another question he said that 62-point package is the mutual decision of the party and we will take all the political parties into confidence. Shah Mehmood dispelled any notion that there is any political uncertainty in the country and said that the present government would complete its tenure. He said that there should be no doubt in anyone's mind about the stability of the government, adding that there are some problems but these would be soon overcome.
He said that former government had adopted such policies which resulted in trade deficit and economical problems but we are not afraid of it. The nation need not worry about it and very soon the situation would be controlled.
He said that independent judiciary is essential for the growth of the democracy, that's why PPP is committed to restoration of judges but through constitutional and honourable means.
