A stakeholder dialogue will be initiated with regard to the constitutional package prepared by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). This was stated by the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms Sherry Rehman, here on Sunday.
She was talking to mediamen after speaking as chief guest at the International Conference on Women's leadership. The moot was held at a local hotel under the auspices of the Women Development Department, Government of Sindh, in collaboration with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
The minister pointed out that the constitutional package to be unveiled at a news conference in Islamabad on Saturday by the party's Co-Chairman, Asif Ali Zardari. She said that the stakeholders' dialogue would be initiated in this regard.
Sherry Rehman said that the lawyers would express their viewpoint in the process of dialogue and a date in this connection is being discussed. She was optimistic that all the issues would be settled in a peaceful manner.
The minister was of the view that any objection or protest by anyone is a democratic right. It is a democratic right to accept or reject anything, she further stated adding that this is part of the democratic culture.
Sherry Rehman said that we would have to foster the spirit of tolerance within ourselves as well.
She said that we have not come up with a final package and that this has come to the fore for the stockholders' dialogue. She stated that we would first hold discussions with the political parties, civil society and the lawyers' bodies.
