The Foreign Minister on Monday appreciated the role played by the United Kingdom for restoration of Pakistan's membership to the Council of Commonwealth. He also welcomed United Kingdom's support for Pakistan's economic development and security, which would be increased to $1 billion in three years.
Britain's Defence Secretary Des Browne, during his maiden visit to Pakistan, called on the Foreign Minister and held discussions on bilateral relations, and regional and international issues. This was third visit United Kingdom officials after Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary.
The Foreign Minister briefed him on the ongoing political process and Pakistan Government's comprehensive and multi-pronged approach towards addressing the issues of extremism and terrorism. They discussed the evolving situation in Afghanistan. Browne acknowledged Pakistan's positive contribution towards reconstruction, peace and stability in Afghanistan and in the region.
