Partly Facetious: In need of some kind of a sanctuary

28 May, 2008

"I was amazed at the politics of the Musharraf clan."
"Are you crazy? This is the only clan that indulged in politics for the past eight years in this country!"
"Musharraf did have a parliament for some of the eight years and a Cabinet, albeit rubber stamp."
"Right, but the others were not indulging in politics."
"What were they indulging in then?"
"The art of sycophancy!"
"You are being facetious."
"No, seriously, politics is not an art in this country, it's a science. See an art requires some output while a science can be so labelled even if you just strive for the output. And in the politics of Musharraf during the eight years all the politicians could do was to strive to please him, they had no output of their own is what I am saying."
"Right, so you have absolved the whole lot of Lotas from responsibility?"
"Yes, I have but when I said the Musharraf clan is indulging in politics I did not mean at a domestic level. I read in a section of the Press that Musharraf's brother and daughter in law are busy giving contributions to Obama."
"Maybe they like him."
"And maybe they think he is the most likely to win and as Musharraf may want some kind of safe haven once he is truly a relic of the past..."
"Ah yes, so some kind of sanctuary."
"I can't imagine any other country taking him on and personally I can't even imagine him wanting to go anywhere else."
"That's certainly true so what next."
"Nothing really, Musharraf is the only one who doesn't realise that he is a spent force."
"And so he keeps taking abuse heaped on him by his opponents."
"He still has 58 2(b)."
"If he dismisses parliament I don't think anyone but anyone will enforce it."
"I would tend to agree."
