Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Monday said that it would not provide safe exit to President Pervez Musharraf and opposed the restoration of the deposed judges through the proposed constitutional package.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, PML-N senior leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that his party would neither provide safe passage to President Musharraf and nor his unconstitutional acts would be validated through constitutional way. "It would be a great tragedy and a sin to give validation to Musharraf's November 3 unconditional acts", he remarked.
He added that his party would also oppose to reinstate the sacked judges of the country's superior courts under any constitutional package instead of the parliamentary resolution as per Bhurban Accord. "We favour reinstatement of judges under Bhurban Declaration instead under any new formula", Nisar added.
Earlier, a meeting of the parliamentary party of the PML-N held at Punjab House with party's president Mian Shahbaz Sharif in the chair, was attended by Raja Zafrul Haq, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Javed Hashmi, Khawaja Asif, Ishad Dar, Ahsan Iqbal and other parliamentarians of the party.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, spokesman of the party, Siddique-ul- Farooq said that the party's leadership took into confidence the parliamentarians over the proposed draft of the constitution amendment package received from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He said the meeting discussed various issues including restoration of the deposed judges and draft constitutional package.
He said that PML-N stance on the restoration of the pre-November 03, 2007 judiciary is very clear adding the party is still on its previous stance that the deposed judges be restored as per Bhurban Declaration. He opined that independence of judiciary and the constitutional package were two difference things and thus the reinstatement of the judges would not be acceptable to the party as well as people of the country according to the constitutional package.
He, however, said that the PML-N believes in resolving issues through dialogue adding that all the issues would be resolved through dialogue with PPP and other coalition partners. He said a six-member committee, headed by Raja Zafrul Haq has been constituted to deliberate upon the draft of the constitutional package and submit the final report to the party's leadership with recommendations. The spokesman further said that the meeting also discussed the impeachment of the President.
He said that the party would actively participate in the long march of the legal fraternity scheduled to be held on June 10 for the restoration of the deposed judges and independence of the judiciary.
Siddique-ul-Farooq further said that the PML-N would arrange a session of the party's parliamentarians on June 6 in which Senator Ishaq Dar would brief them over the federal budget. Besides, he said a workshop would also be arranged for the new parliamentarians to educate them regarding proceedings of the National Assembly to actively take part in the debate over the coming Federal Budget to be presented in the National Assembly on June 10.
