Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said on Tuesday that his party, Pakistan Muslim League-Q, would openly defend President Pervez Musharraf, opposing any move of the government to impeach him. "He is a constitutionally elected President for five years and would complete his tenure and any move to impeach him would be averted", he told reporters here.
The opposition leader strongly criticised the government for its failure to deliver, saying that coalition parties made a bundle of promises prior to the elections, but could not materialise anyone of them so far to give relief to the masses.
Despite lapse of four months, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League -N did nothing for the masses and it had been indulged in the non-issues whereas the issue of atta, loadshedding and unprecedented inflation was there, which severely affected the common man, he said.
"The coalition parties are making changes in the clauses of the Constitution, but did not know what they are doing with the nation", he remarked. Pervaiz also blamed the coalition government for opting for political victimisation of PML-Q, particularly in Sindh and Punjab where he claimed fake cases were being registered against the party workers.
Instead of political victimisation, the concentration of the government should be on addressing the masses' issues, Pervaiz added. To a question, he said that his party strongly opposed the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), which gave indemnity to the people, who were involved in corruption.
"There is only Pakistan Muslim League and no forward bloc," he responded to a query. About the formation of the new party by former PML-Q leader Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, he said that Sheikh Sahib was with us since college days and would remain with us.
