Pakistan needs political, economic stability: Mukhtar

06 Jun, 2008

Federal Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar has said that Pakistan needs economic and political stability and collective efforts should be made for this purpose. Talking to a private TV channel he said that the country is facing several problems, including price hike, poverty, illiteracy and unemployment.
He said the government should take solid steps to settle these problems instead of utilising energies on non-issues. To a question about the ex-army men demand of removing President Pervez Musharraf through impeachment, he said they ought to have made this demand when they were in service.
He said when these ex-servicemen were given extra job by President Musharraf they did not say any thing against him but at that time they used to sing songs in his praise. The government looks into every option, he added.
Ahmad Mukhar said that Pervez Musharraf is an elected President, either true or false but he has been elected by the parliament. "We contested elections under him, there is no reason that I should say I do not accept him President", he clarified. To another question he said the party will decide whether he is to be impeached. The party is examining what benefit comes if President Musharraf is removed, he said.
