Provincial Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed has said that Sindh government will procure CT scan and MRI machine one each for Sindh's teaching hospitals at a cost of Rs 564 million.
Chairing a meeting at his office here on Thursday, the minister said these machines would be purchased during next financial year and installed at Civil Hospital Karachi, Chandka Medical College Hospital Larkana, Peoples Medical College Hospital Nawabshah and Liaquat Medical University Hospital Hyderabad.
Of the total cost, Rs 282 million will be provided by the federal government and 282 million by provincial government. On the occasion Additional Secretary (Development) Dr Sri Chand informed the meeting that purchase process for CT and MRI machines will start from July 2008.
He said federal government has released Rs 108 million out of its contribution of Rs 282 million and remaining amount will be released during next fiscal while Sindh government has approved its Rs 282 million funding. Dr Saghir Ahmed said that objective is to provide better medical facilities to people at their doorsteps.
"We want to provide same medical facilities to people of rural areas as are available to urban areas". He directed officials that after installation of these most modern machines, special care should be taken about their maintenance and required environment.
