The district government is spending Rs 26 billion on the improvement and upgradation of rural health centres, basic health units and tehsil headquarter hospitals in Sialkot district.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that the step was being taken to provide maximum health-cover to the masses at their doorstep as well as to reduce the pressure on district headquarter hospital.
Sources said that the district government was making all out efforts for converting Allama Iqbal hospital into a model hospital aimed at making it a good nursing home for the sick. The hospital would be equipped with latest equipment for extending all possible treatment facilities to the patients at local level, they added.
It may be added that district government has already established 'Hepatitis Cell' at Allama Iqbal hospital where patients suffering from hepatitis are being provided free medical treatment.
