Bid to save energy: solar geyser installed at Enercon building

06 Jun, 2008

In a bid to boost government's energy conservation efforts, a solar geyser having a capacity to heat up 35 gallons of water was installed at Energy Condervation Centre's (Enercon) building here on Thursday. Federal Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi inaugurated the installation of the geyser.
The installation of the geyser is a pioneer effort by Enercon for energy conservation in public-private partnership. Briefing journalists on the occasion the Minister said that most of the Pakistani households rely on natural gas geysers to heat water, which caused Green House Gas emissions resulting in climate change.
He said that Pakistan is blessed with abundant sunshine to meet water- heating needs. Afridi said that with the introduction of the solar geyser, the energy required to heat water may be reduced up to 80 percent resulting in huge savings on water heating bills and major cuts in green house gases' emissions. He added that a solar geyser can pay back its cost within two to three years through the savings on the gas and electricity bills.
